Update September 16, 2007
Welcome to
Red Roof Llama Farm,
home to my husband (Lawrence) and myself (Dortha) along with 17 Llamas, 8 dogs, 7 cats
8 Dairy goats (six (6) Does and 2 Bucks).
I am Dortha Little, retired. My husband, Lawrence is also retired. We have two daughters, Cheryl McClure and Paula Sirten, 5 grandchildren, 3 grandsons (Eric McClure, Devin McClure, Zachary McClure) and 2 granddaughters (Whitney Sirten and Dori McClure).
I started my small farm in 2002 with llamas, I currently have 17 llamas. I had planned to breed some of my girls this past May. However, I changed my mind. I decided not to breed any of them. However late last month (August 2007) I had a surprise in my front pasture. Two of my young males were munching away on the pasture. All 13 girls were in another pasture. However the boys had come through that pasture and I don't know when they got in. The problem was a gate latch. I guess that has happened to others before me. I remember someone calling some of their cria, gate latch babies.
In 2006, I ventured into Dairy Goats. I have been milking and making Goat's Milk Soap since May of 2006. I really enjoy making the soap. My goats are all just pets. I cant' image life around here without them at this particular time in my life. You know, I actually thought about goats in the beginning!! Just goes to show you, go with your first instinct!!
It is now the season for breeding the Dairy goats. I plan to breed 3 Does this year. (Maybe 4). I think if I have more to sell and I get them to the sale earlier enough, perhaps it will pay me to go to the auction this time.
The goats are still the ones that pay the bills for the rest of my animals. I am currently milking two does. We use the milk and I use it for my soap. The rest usually goes to my hounds, they love it!! I want to learn to make cheese, but I haven't gotten into that just yet. I do make buttermilk, it is great!
Really, you should try the goat's milk soap. I, personally, have not found any product that makes my skin feel so soft!! The Mint is spectacular!! At one point, I could not keep enough Mint made, now it is the Tea Tree. I am having trouble keeping it made. However, that is great, means my soap is selling!!
I have a new fragrance, "Mint Tea Tree! I will be taking this one to my next sale. I am making shave soap and putting together 'Mugs, Soap, and Shave brushes. I am offering only two (2) fragrances in the shave soap, "Mint Tea Tree and Lemon Cream, I personally am going to give this a try on my legs.
Thank you very much for your patronage,
God Bless, Love you All!!
